Different Lenses For Eyeglasses To Choose From

By Brandon Powers

There are many different type of lenses for eyeglasses available on the market today. A glasses lens can be tailor made to allow any individual to get the best possible results for particular problems with vision. In recent years, blends of different types of lenses have become available for those patients with more than one sight problem.

Technology has brought amazing leaps forward in the glasses lens of today. First of all, it weighs less because it is made of hi-tech plastics and not glass. It is also more durable than before for this same reason. The lens is a lot thinner and scratch-resistant as well.

The polycarbonate lens is a very good choice for those who are very active or sporty. The lens is impact-resistant, making it an equally good choice for young ones who are prone to dropping or breaking their glasses. The polycarbonate lens also contains protection from ultraviolet rays.

The photochromic lens also offers UV protection and changes to a tinted lens once you are out in the sun. This can save you a lot of money as you would not have to purchase another pair of sunglasses with your prescription. However, some people may not be as enthusiastic about the tinted lens from a style perspective.

For individuals with a much stronger prescription, the high index plastic lens is the best choice. This lens is much thinner than strong lens wearers would normally receive, making it less cumbersome on the face. Because of its thinness and lightness, the lens allows for a wider range of frames to choose from.

Along with these different types of lenses for eyeglasses, one must know what level of correction a particular issue with vision requires. Bifocals and trifocals are specifically for those patients who have multiple issues with their vision, in one eye or both. Previously, the multifocal lens had one or more lines dividing it, which was very unflattering to the wearer. Nowadays, the lens - also known as a progressive lens - is made to look seamless.
